First steps

Hello dear reader!

Well, we did it! We broke ground in the backyard to prep for garden beds! It’s still hot as all git out and we were sweating! Did a little soft tilling to break up that clay so we can make the ground a little more level. We plan on doing beds in a few places, but we wanted to work on the one that will get full sun first.

Multi purpose chores

We also did some tree trimming, so we have more wood to use for our garden projects. There are some fallen fence panels that we will repurpose to use for the raised beds. Next we need to figure out where to put a greenhouse, which might be a hoop house for now. In the meantime, we are going to acquire some basic carpentry skills to build one in the future, and collect discarded windows to use for that project.

Pallet collecting has been a fun side quest! Once we have enough of those, they will be put together to make a 3-bin composting station. There’s alot more work to be done, but at least we have a rough draft of where the beds will go in the first garden. Stay tuned for more work videos as we move along!

Your friendly bit of earned wisdom…..

Oh, we have a little PSA for you. When you’re tilling, don’t try to cut up vines with the tiller unless you want to take a while to cut them off of the blades so the whole thing doesn’t seize up! Here’s a fun little 20 seconds of the about 10 minutes it took for me to do that 🤣
