Hello dear reader! We want to tell you about an amazing shop here in the Atlanta suburb of Decatur. More precisely, Avondale. It’s a little place called The Seed to Star Collective, but the work they do is far from small. The owner, Laura Greiner, is an Atlanta native now living in Decatur with her husband, their 2 children and 2 dogs. She loves all things rocks and minerals, and learning about the geology and history of the local land.

A Mission to Help Others

Laura began her journey as an acupuncturist in 2008, and had always dreamed of having a gathering space. When she was in art school, she wanted to start a community arts center. She says “People need safe spaces to gather, to learn, relax, heal and just be. In community. I simply want to help people whether that is with acupuncture, with teaching, with connecting people to stones, or if it is simply by having the space for people to connect with others.”

Growing the Seed to a Star

She first opened The Seed to Star Collective in 2017 with the intention of offering acupuncture, reiki and other healing modalities and has now grown her space to include events such as classes about stones, sound healing, guided meditation and an amazing crystal shop.

The vibe inside Seed to Star is calming and beautiful. You can truly feel the deep caring there. Laura and her practitioners are among the kindest people you’ll meet and their energy is amazing.

Serving the People

Who are the people her business serves? Well, everyone! Laura just wants to help people feel better in order to live their best life and offer them a space to take their wellness journey. For her, this is the most rewarding part of her business. Laura and her practitioners work hard to make their services, classes and items affordable and accessible. For example, she offers classes for $11.00, has sliding scale sessions and donation-based community sound baths. She personally loves working with mothers and caregivers who she says “need unique support, as parenting can be exhausting!”

Rocks and Minerals

In their retail area, there is what is known as The Rock Shop. Yes, she does sell crystals there, but it is not like any typical crystal store. Laura says about it, “This is truly one of a kind and unlike any other in the area. The shop has a large selection of U.S. stones, many straight from the rockhounds who collected them, and unique, one of a kind specimens that you won’t find other places.” She continues, “The term Ethically Sourced is thrown around far too much in the crystal world, as most shops don’t even know where their stones are sourced. I am extremely discerning with who and where I purchase the stones, and only have a few trusted suppliers and most come directly from the rockhounds.”

Talk about supporting local! We love the integrity she has sourcing her items and the fact that she truly supports small businesses.

Proud Mama

In addition to Laura’s children (2 legged and 4 legged) this business is also her child. She gave birth to her idea of creating a healing space for others, and grew that into an amazing small business. Regarding this, she says “I am proud of how Seed to Star has become such a sacred and safe space for people. I am proud of what I have built, physically setting up the space and curating the shop, and bringing together amazing practitioners that help people feel better, access their truth and just overall feel better in the world.”

Finding Balance

Her whole family helps, and running a small business is a lot more than it would seem. Her day doesn’t end when the doors to the shop close. There is always something happening in the background that the general public never sees. Unlike big chain stores and corporate entities, where all of the work is divided up by positions and job descriptions, small business owners are doing every area of their business themselves. That means they do every part of what runs any business from Administration to CEO and literally every job position in between.

Laura admits that it is harder and more taxing than she ever imagined to be a small business owner, but it has helped her learn more about herself and taught her to set boundaries. It’s allowed her to speak her truth, and she says she’s constantly learning how to manage her time and energy better so she doesn’t burn out.

Our Closing Thoughts

We are so grateful to Laura for the space she’s created. Her practitioners, her classes and her products are thoughtfully chosen. The Seed to Star Collective is a gift to anyone who goes there, and you feel better just by being in the atmosphere she has created. The caring energy is palpable. It is truly unique and one of our favorite places to visit.
