Hello dear reader!
It’s that time of year where we like change. Not the kind that gets thrust upon you without consent, but self initiated change. So today we are looking at things we love, to add to the esthetic of our home. With Halloween soon, this is the best time of year shop for home decor!
Our inspiration for this room
Since we don’t subscribe to just one type of look, we mix up all of our interests and create something new. This time we’re blending a 70’s vibe with a Goth influence. This is a room that we think Stevie herself would love, and we hope you do too! If you’re looking to add a few new things to your abode, you can find them here. Any of the items that you want to get are linked in the photo.
So play some Fleetwood Mac or maybe some Siouxsie and let’s decorate!
Just a little side note
We always choose our items thoughtfully, and if it’s an item we haven’t bought already, it’s definitely in our cart for later! Writing for you dear reader, is something we love to do and we have so much fun putting together these looks and party ideas like our Goth Tea Party! This is also how our blog makes us an income, so please consider purchasing through us. In a perfect world, we would be the happiest if we could just write content and not worry about the money side. Until the world changes though, we all gotta do what we gotta do right? We all need to support each other, the world is too hard to walk through alone.
A little groovy, a little magical and a little dark
The room we are creating is the main living area. Call it a Living Room, call it a Den…….there are several terms, but you get the idea! Let’s start with the front door. This wooden plaque measures 12″x5″ and has a pre drilled hole for hanging. Let your guests know before they even walk in that your space is sacred!
Once you step into the main living space, you can have these as runners. They are actually marketed as kitchen anti-fatigue mats and are waterproof. However, we love using things off label and finding new uses for them! You won’t have to worry about spills on these babies, so go-ahead and have that cocktail (or mocktail) party! (Side note, if you have a Senior dog who has trouble walking on your hardwood floors, these are excellent for them! They provide a nonslip surface so your dog can walk across the room without falling!)
Walls….your own magical art gallery
Our first piece of wall decor replaces the standard key hooks at the front door. This one doubles as a shelf and is shaped like a bat!
Speaking of shelves, we adore this one! It’s perfect for displaying your crystals and other trinkets of magic.
More wall decor! Add to the witchy vibe with these 3 wooden art pieces. They measure 11-ish x 8-ish inches each (the measurements vary slightly on each piece) and have hooks already installed for easy hanging.
Okay, okay, last wall piece we promise! We can’t have a complete look without this amazing crescent moon dream catcher! About 40″ long, it’s got a black agate hanging from the moons tip, with ribbons and lace hanging below. This piece is one of our favorites.
Groovy, dreamy accents that flow
For the doorway that leads out into the hall or next room (depending on how your space is set up) this beaded curtain screams 70’s while having a goth vibe. If you’re in a studio layout, you can get a couple of these and use them as a divider to create a more private area within your space.
You could instead, hang these black lace curtains in the doorway. Or you could actually use them as window curtains and keep the beads up. We used to have both in our doorway together, and tied the center of the curtains back to swoop from the top and drape down the sides of the beaded curtain. It was a really cool look!
We love the mood that netting creates. This is again, something we use off label. It’s a mosquito net to hang over your bed, but we like to hang them over other furniture. This one is huge and can go up over your couch.
This one is a bit smaller and goes great over a chair. We had one like this when we had one of those round papasan chairs, it sat in a corner and we hung it over that. Instead of having it hang down the sides, (because, cats) we pinned parts up on the ceiling so it kind of had a drapey spiderweb effect. You could do the same thing with the larger one too if you also have demon hellcats that like to climb your curtains.
Have a seat and stay a while
This the chair we used to have. It was soooo comfy and I miss it! It looks so cool with the netting hanging over it and is a much less expensive alternative to a couch or overstuffed chair.
These next two chairs are super comfy and work really well with the decor too.
We used to have a futon like this one. It’s a great and much less expensive alternative to a couch plus it doubles as a bed! It also looks great with the large netting hanging over it adorned with fairy lights.
Pillows for a touch of color or texture
Speaking of the couch and chairs, you gotta have throw pillows! There’s a few choices of covers, depending on how you want to accent the room. Also we had a hard time choosing because we dig them all!
The first cover set is a gorgeous black shag which pulls together the 70’s and Goth feel. Super soft and fluffy, these wash well and don’t shed. For less than $20 it’s like stealing luxury!
These blood red Damask covers are classic Goth. They are a cotton blend and have a short pile on the design for added dimension and texture.
Alright Sisters of the Moon, these are for you. This beautiful set of 4 covers are made of linen and each has a different design. You can either have them all on the couch, or use one in a chair and some on the bed.
We would be remiss if we didn’t include some Nightmare Before Christmas! This set is also made of linen and has four different designs.
Just in case you don’t have 18″x18″ pillows to put these covers on, we like these.
All the little details
There absolutely MUST be fairy lights! Wrap these whimsical lights into any of the nets or curtains listed above for an added touch of magic. You can get a strand of 100 or 200 lights, depending on how sparkly you want your space.
We definitely have a thing about spiders! These spiderweb coasters are silicone so nothing slips, and they add a sneaky Goth detail to the room.
More Lunar goodness! This fascinating crescent moon incense waterfall adds another layer of mystic to your space. We love that you can enjoy incense without so much smoke.
To softly illuminate your space, this macrame lamp gives the perfect 70’s vibe.
Don’t forget the little details! Covers for outlets and light switches add that final touch. We love these metal plates. They have a raised scroll design that gives them a little Victorian feel.
